Make Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Earthquake Cake with pantry staples, clear cues, and flexible swaps.
Servings: 12

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare chocolate cake batter according to package instructions. Spread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle peanut butter chips, chopped Reese’s, and chocolate chips over the cake batter.
  4. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add melted butter, peanut butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Mix until creamy.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter. Do not spread—it will create swirls while baking.
  6. Bake 40–45 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is slightly gooey (like an earthquake crackled effect).
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm.
