Crafting Flavorful Homemade Marinara Sauce

This homemade marinara sauce offers a rich, slow-cooked flavor and a velvety texture, making it an ideal companion for pasta nights and family gatherings.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cans 28 ounces each whole tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the whole tomatoes, crushing them with your hands or a spoon as you add.
  5. Add sugar, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat. Cover and let it cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in chopped fresh basil just before serving.
